Juniata College Women's Group

The Juniata College Women's Group was started in the fall of 2001 by Cara Helstrom. Cara felt a strong need for a place where women on Juniata's campus could come together in order to be informed about the state of world affairs, and what they can do to help. The Juniata College Women's Group aims to teach young women on campus about different issues and different lives of women around the world, not to mention women on this very campus. It is a place where women can unite and be inspired.

The Juniata College Women's Group frequently listens to inspirational songs and poems by women authors, and the women that attend the meetings are asked to share inspirational stories from their lives, as well as to offer support to other women who need it. They often have women professors from Juniata come in and talk about their specialties, and plan to have women from the community come in and talk in the near future. Service work for local agencies regarding women's issues seems to be in the near future for the group as well.

The group has authors, poets, and singers (all women) come to campus to promote campus wide awareness of women's issues. Cara and all members of the Juniata College Women's Group have helped it continue to grow and become a group on campus that has proved helpful and uplifting to many of Juniata's female students.
